Beaver Dam Farm has been a family owned and operated working dairy farm since 1927. Raising and milking approximately 120 Holsteins twice a day, seven days a week is the main income for the farm. We raise our own crops for cattle feeding including hay, soy beans, straw, corn, sorghum, and millet.
In addition to the milking there are other cattle to be fed, calves that get bottles twice a day, crops that need planted and harvested depending on the season and machinery, buildings and fences to be maintained.
20 acres of black oil sunflowers were first planted in the fall of 2015. After harvest they yielded 300, 40 pound bags of birdseed. All seed sold out within the first few months.
This year an additional 10 acres were planted for a total of 30 acres. Once harvested seeds will be available at the following locations; H&H Outdoors, D&J Produce, Ikenberry Orchards, Rockingham Co-op and Rockbridge Co-op.
